True Shape of Section of a Pentagonal Pyramid

A pentagonal pyramid, base 40mm side and axis 70mm long, has its base on HP with one edge of the base perpendicular to VP. It is cut by a section plane perpendicular to VP and inclined at 45° to HP, bisecting the axis. Draw the sectional top view and true shape of section.

Step-by-Step Construction

  1. 1

Draw the base of the pyramid in top view with one edge perpendicular to VP

  2. 2

Project the pyramid in front view with height 70mm

  3. 3

Draw the cutting plane at 45° to HP, bisecting the axis

  4. 4

Determine the points of intersection on each edge

  5. 5

Project these points to get the sectional top view

  6. 6

Use auxiliary projection to obtain the true shape of section

Pro Tips

  • Always verify your measurements with a scale before finalizing the drawing
  • Use construction lines lightly and darken the final solution
  • Label all important points and reference lines clearly
